Dementia care

A person living with dementia will need specialist care and support as their condition progresses, and there may come a time when moving into a care home is the best option.

At Orchid Woodlands, we offer a range of specialist care for people living with dementia, including residential dementia care and nursing dementia care depending on an individual’s needs. We understand that every person living with dementia will be affected differently, requiring an in-depth understanding of each individual in order to provide the right level of support. To achieve this good communication between all members of the care team, be they nurses, carers, relatives or doctors is essential.

We know that memory loss affects every resident differently and train our team to value each individual and to recognise their abilities, preferences and needs. We focus on understanding each resident to provide person-centred care, comfort and security in a familiar environment. We also encourage our residents with dementia to be actively involved in planning their care with the support of their family, staff and other healthcare professionals.

Living well with Dementia

At Orchid Woodlands, we understand the specific challenges faced by people living with dementia and we focus on building personal relationships that foster independence and creativity. However, we also understand how hard it can be to support someone through their dementia journey. Our staff are therefore here to not only provide exceptional levels of care but to help our residents’ relatives when it comes to understanding dementia.

Relatives are also welcome to visit whenever they like and we support them to be an integral part of life in our care home. They are often seen joining in with afternoon tea or taking part in recreational activities with our residents. Some even choose to volunteer, helping them to spend more quality time with their loved ones.

We believe in enriching lives by providing meaningful activities for people with dementia. Our teams pride themselves on seeing a person beyond their journey, finding those little details about their life history which makes them truly individual.

Interactive Touchscreen Table

We are also very proud to have purchased the Magic Table. The touch screen table is a fun, care innovation that helps connect older people in the late stage of their dementia journey with each other and with their surroundings, all while stimulating movement. The beautiful, interactive games were developed specifically for the target group and can be played both independently and under the supervision of our trusted care staff. The games make work or visits more enjoyable. They are also designed to play in an intuitive way.

The Magic Table Original was developed for and with people in the moderate to severe stages of dementia. The interactive games break through apathy by stimulating a level of physical and social activity rarely seen in people living with dementia at that stage of their journey.  Moreover, the touch screen table creates treasured moments with family members and carers. These games really are all about enjoyment and wonder.
